Apple's homepage and Mac OS X webpages refer to it as OS X Lion, without the ''Mac,'' although Apple's press release for Lion's July release uses both ''Mac OS X Lion'' and ''OS X Lion.'' A preview of Lion was publicly unveiled at Apple's ''Back to the Mac'' event on October 20, 2010. Mac OS X Lion (version 10.7) is the eighth major release of Mac OS X, Apple's desktop and server operating system for Macintosh computers.
